Introduction to the department.
Face of any Hospital is the Emergency, the laboratory & the Department of Radiology, now known as the Department of Imaging. Radiology now encompasses the modalities in which non ionizing radiations are being used, like ultrasound & Magnetic Resonance imaging. The development of computers has revolutionized the field of imaging. In the last two decades, many new modalities have been introduced like, ultrasound with color Doppler & 3D imaging , CT scanning , including the Helical & Spiral CT & now the Electron Beam CT which will be able to detect coronary artery diseases.
The department of Radiology at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital comprises of 5 X-ray machines of variable KV & mAs. Almost all the wards are equipped with portable x-Ray machines. The department is equipped with two ultrasound machines, fluoroscopy with image intensifier, mammography and a CT scan machine.
All types of X-rays are being performed in the department, including conventional as well as all contrast & special studies.
All kinds of interventional procedures performed in the department such as liver abscess drainage, PCN & biopsies under ultrasound & CT guidance. Lately the department has attained color Doppler ultrasound machine and palmer for ultrasound.
Academic
The department is recognized both for FCPS & MCPS training in Radiology by the College of Physicians & Surgeons, Pakistan. Two of our candidates, have already cleared their MCPS examination in 1997.
At present we are training 6 RMOs and 4 Postgraduate students are enrolled for the MCPS examination. The candidate for FCPS will be enrolled soon. The department is loaded with books, CDs & slides related to the field.
We hope to serve better with the proper support of the administration.
