Introduction
to the department.
Physiology
is the basis of medical education. Every new physiological concept that a student
learns during his stay in first professional helps him in the understanding of
different pathological processes that are responsible for various diseases of
the human body. The course of physiology, taught in two academic years, includes
various aspects of body functions and their control in detail resting upon the
theoretical knowledge along with sophisticated practical when and wherever needed.
This is organized in a highly conducive environment in the most modern and well-equipped
laboratories and audiovisual facilities, emphasizing on electrophysiology , hematology
and special senses.
a. Electrophysiology Laboratory:
This laboratory can accommodate a group of 25 students at a time. The working benches are well equipped with the latest recording system for never amphibian and human experiments.
b. Hematology Laboratories:
This laboratory can accommodate a group of 20 students at a time. The working benches are well equipped with fluorescent binocular microscope and other necessary equipments required for basic hematology practical.
c. Audiovisual Centre:
Recently an audiovisual unit has been developed for self-learning in Physiology. The unit is equipped with the latest computerized facilities available.
d. Physiology Research Unit:
A
research unit related to the neuromuscular & exercise physiology has been
developed. Research equipment have been procured to conduct basic research according
to international standards.
All of the above units/labs have especially
been designed to cater the requirements of undergraduates, at present and for
postgraduate students in the future. The equipments used in these laboratories
have been chosen from the best available local and foreign scientific companies.
A concentrated effort has been made to equip the laboratories with highly sophisticated
electrophysiological equipments like oscillographs, computer recording system
including MACLAB (POWERLAB) data processing and analysis system and latest binocular
microscope etc. which are both research oriented and at the same time beneficial
for the students as well. Department of Physiology has qualified teaching staff,
efficient technical staff and sufficient space to teach 50 students of MBBS and
30 students of BDS each year.
