Introduction to the department.

In 1996 department of Psychiatry was established, in the beginning we started our OPD two days a week and participated in clinical activities with medical department of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. At that time we admitted our patients in medical unit at ASH.

Since 1997 we are having a 14 beds facility in Trauma Centre with 7 beds for female and 7 beds for male patients.

We see an average of 70 patients per week, that makes 560 patients per month i.e.6720/ annum. Our admission rate is 20 patients per month that make 240 patients per annum.

There are 14 lectures of Psychiatric and Behavioral Sciences per year for undergraduate students and 3-week postings in Department of Psychiatry for undergraduate medical students.

We hold regular lectures for 3rd year nursing students. We have extended our teaching facilities to the students of Psychology and Social work of Karachi University.
