Introduction to the department.

The department of Anesthesiology has expanded is surgical ICU in terms of work load due to addition of a trauma centre, which is the first of its kind in this metropolis. Eight operation theaters and 7 intensive care beds were added specifically for trauma centre making the total number of operation theater to 20 and intensive care beds to 15.

The department has 6 Consultants, 6 Senior Registrars and 20 Resident Medical Officers. The department is recognized for postgraduate training by the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan, for MCPS.

Operation theaters are equipped with ECG monitors puls-oximetery and blood pressure apparatus defibrillator and capnographs.

Intensive Care system is equipped with central oxygen supply, central sucion, respirators, centralized ECG monitor system, pulse oximetry and automated blood pressure monitoring, defibillator and capnographs, non invsive pacemaker, transcutaneous PO2 and PCO2 and blood gas analyzer and other necessary equipments, anesthesia clinic equipped with ECG machines and vitalograph.

A seminar room has been constructed with teaching aids and computerized teaching programs being acquired. The departmental library is being expanded and further programs and teaching aids being acquired. Pain clinic and a respiratory intensive care unit is the next step in future development in addition to the improvement in existing facilities.
