Introduction to the department.

The different disciplines in anatomy are taught in relation to the functions with an emphasis in the basis of their usefulness to the students in their clinical years of training. The number of teaching hours for different disciplines in strictly in accordance with the recommendations of Pakistan Medical & Dental Council and University Grant Commission.

The department setup includes:

a. Dissection Hall

It is spacious and sufficient for more than hundred students to work and dissect at a time. There are two mortuary refrigerators for preservation and storage of dead bodies.

b. Anatomy Museum

Anatomy museum is well-equipped with eighty plastic models of different parts of human body. dissected specimens from different regions of human body are also available in a adequate number. For the purpose of teaching cross sectional anatomy, there is a very useful plastic model of head, neck and trunk. Bones are available in ample quantity. Six sets of model bones have also been obtained recently. Anatomical charts are available for better understanding of Gross Anatomy.

c. Histology Section

This section is very well equipped and has twenty seven binocular microscopes and about eight hundred and fifty imported slides of extremely good quality. There is a fully equipped microtechnic laboratory for preparation of histological slides in the department.

A ten-headed Nikon Microscope is available where nine students can be accommodated at a time with a teacher for proper understanding and learning.

In addition the department is equipped with a research microscope with all photographic accessories

d. Learning Resources Centre

There is a separate Learning Resources Centre where colour T.V, V.C.R, slide projector and overhead projector are available. A set of Ninty one transparencies in embryology, a large number of transparencies in histology, more than hundred video films on dissection and other learning materials are available. It is a great help to the students, particularly in self-learning. A Video Cam has recently been obtained.
